Samy Akil
Samy is the host and founder of the Syria Spectrum Podcast. is a Nonresident Fellow at TIMEP focusing on politics and security in Syria. He is a political analyst specializing in Middle Eastern affairs with a focus on Syria and a particular interest in political transition, diplomacy, and security. He held advisory roles with the International NGO Safety Organization (INSO) where he provided contextual analysis on conflict dynamics in Northwest Syria; and GIZ, where he supported the UN-led peace process as part of the agency’s Syria Peace Initiative. His writing and analysis has been featured in the Middle East Institute, the Atlantic Council, the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), the Lowy Institute, and the Operations and Policy Center (OPC). Samy is also a founding member of the Change for Syria Network (C4S), a grassroots initiative promoting youth participation in Syria’s political, civic, and cultural spheres. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from La Trobe University and a Master’s degree in Middle Eastern and Central Asian Studies from the Australian National University.

Adel Rawas
Adel Rawas is a Dubai based videographer and video editor focused on humanitarian stories and community content. He serves as Senior Video & Editing Producer for the Syria Spectrom podcast and works as a creative director guiding concepts, shoots, and post. He delivers short form (Reels/Stories) and long-form videos (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram) with clear, bilingual edits using Premiere Pro and After Effects.

Baker Alatassi
Baker Al Atassi is an independent researcher and analyst with s special interest in middle east political history and geopolitics. He holds a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Jordan University of Science and Technology and a master's degree from RWTH Aachen University in advanced computational methods. He currently works in Software development and applies data-driven analysis in his fields of interest.

Hashem Haj Bakri
Hashem is a journalist and documentary filmmaker with over twelve years of experience in the media industry. He began his career as a field correspondent during the Syrian revolution, reporting for several prominent news outlets, including Sada al-Sham, Rudaw TV, and Orient News, until 2017.
After relocating to Turkey, he continued his work with notable Syrian organizations such as the Syrian Civil Defense (White Helmets), the Operations & Policy Center (OPC), and the Syrian Negotiation Commission. In 2023, he earned a degree in Cinema and Television from Istanbul University.
His documentary films have been featured in several festivals across Turkey, including the Rotary Peace Film Festival in Istanbul and the Izmir International Refugee Film Festival.
Currently, he is part of the Turkish organization Medya ve Göç Derneği (MGD), where he works on projects aimed at combating hate speech and fostering dialogue and collaboration between Syrian and Turkish journalists.

Hussain Ghazi
Hussain Ghazi is a Multimedia Creator, Rapper, and Electronic Music Producer.
His work explores both sound and visuals, as he searches for his own artistic voice and creates projects that truly reflect his identity.
As a designer, he has collaborated with several digital platforms and television channels, developing visual concepts that merge creativity with cultural expression.
As a rapper, he has spent years honing his craft, continuously working and searching for his unique voice.
In music, he dives into electronic experimentation, producing his own tracks while seeking to keep pace with the evolving global soundscape.

Liz Morán
Liz is TIMEP’s Media and External Relations Assistant. She holds a BSc in International Relations and an MA in Political and Institutional Communication. Liz was previously an intern with a European lobby and a global communications agency. She is an international migration and foreign policy enthusiast.

Ronnie Hamada
Ronnie is the technical lead of our team. His work bridges filmmaking, music production, and geopolitical analysis. He has a background in security risk management, holds a degree in Governance from University College Freiburg and is currently pursuing an MA in Human Geography at Uni Mainz.

Zakaria al-Shamly
Zakaria (Zak) Al Shmaly is a Syrian researcher and lecturer specializing in governance, democracy studies, and European affairs. He held positions with the Carnegie Endowment, the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Norwegian Refugee Council, and the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO). His work has been featured at international forums including the Athens Democracy Forum, the European Economic and Social Committee, and the Raisina Dialogue. Zakaria was a Dahrendorf Fellow at Oxford University’s St. Antony’s College, and a Doctoral Fellow at UNU-MERIT. He holds an MA in Transnational Governance from the European University Institute and a BA in Governance from the University College Freiburg. He currently lectures at Maastricht University.
